The Bush Set Top Box Alternate Software

Introduction

The reason I got interested in the Bush Box at all was because I saw it and wonderd if I could get ARM Linux to run on it. I had been working with Ben Dooks to get Linux running on the Simtec 7500 Development board and noticed the similarities to the Bush STB in terms of CPU and IO contoller.

After accidentaly destroying my original box (see even the profesionals get it wrong sometimes) another was obtained and modified to have a ps2 and serial ports by Simtec.

Arm linux was ported to the bush box by myself with a little help from Ben Dooks. Please see the kyllikki armlinux page for more details.

Starting Linux from NC OS

It is possible to boot the Linux kernel from the original NC OS software if you have an old PPA Zip drive. To do this all you need is an apropriately formated disc, download and unpack the apropriate bush STB armlinux archive and set the bush box to boot from the zip drive. A few seconds later you will be at a linux prompt. Please read the README before asking any questions.

The source for the modified linloader is available together with a norcroft compiler ready zlib both of which are only useful if you have the acorn norcroft C compiler enviroment and wish to re-produce the binaries I have supplied.
